Nurturing our middle school students to thrive and learn

Our middle schooling philosophy for years 7,8 & 9 is designed to meet the changing needs of young people, nurturing their academic, social and well-being development. Our core values of Respect, Equality, Pride, Integrity and Resilience underpin everything we do. Every student in middle school belongs to a Grove supported by Grove teachers who have been selected as specialists in both curriculum and middle schooling philosophies.

Our approach ensures learning and wellbeing is supported and monitored by teachers, support staff, Learning Area and Sub-school Leader teams, headed up by an Assistant Principal of Middle Years.

Middle Years students are given a 'voice' within the school community through a Middle Years Forum, that allows them to contribute to whole-school decision-making.

Students in Year 7 and 8 are situated in the newly established Middle School Building and their dedicated Grove classroom is where they spend the majority of their lessons.

Year 7 students are supported by year 10 & 11 Peer Support leaders to transition into high school.

Our Middle School Community is committed to:

  • Achieving “Success for All”
  • Students being organised in small communities of learners
  • Pedagogy and curriculum that engages, challenges and connects learners to their future
  • Differentiated learning opportunities supporting the needs of every student
  • Developing effective ‘Learner Dispositions’ (Collaborative, Creative, Reflective, Self-motivated and Resilient)
  • Being ethical users of technology
  • Valuing the voice of students in their learning
  • Acknowledging and celebrating achievements as part of a culture of success
  • Creating a safe learning environment where all students can thrive and learn

Please see our curriculum guide below for middle school subject pathway information:

Acknowledgement of Country

Golden Grove High School acknowledges the Kaurna people who are the traditional owners of the land we learn on. We pay our respects to their spiritual relationship with Country and acknowledge that their cultural and heritage beliefs are still as important to those living today.

We pay our respects to Kaurna Elders, past, present and emerging and we acknowledge the cultural authority of Aboriginal people visiting from areas around Australia.
