Caring for the wellbeing of our students to be the best they can be

We are committed to supporting the wellbeing of all students both in and outside of the classroom. By providing both individualised, targeted wellbeing services and year level specific wellbeing programs, we ensure students develop the tools they need to be successful learners. Our wellbeing strategic plan guides whole school improvement of student wellbeing and operates in the context of the DfE learner Wellbeing Framework and embodies our school values: Respect, Equality, Pride, Integrity and Resilience.

Our Wellbeing Team takes pride in the depth of experience and knowledge of our multidisciplinary roles, which consist of:

  • Assistant Principal of Student Wellbeing
  • Student Wellbeing Leaders
  • Defence School Mentor
  • Clinical Psychologists (one day a fortnight)
  • Pastoral Care Worker
  • Wellbeing Support Officer

Our team offers a range of services to students that include:

  • Managing relationships with family, teachers and peers
  • Social skill development
  • Emotional regulation
  • Managing wellbeing issues
  • General wellbeing check ins
  • Advice on curriculum and career pathways
  • Information and referrals to other support agencies
  • Supporting attendance and engagement with their learning
  • Organization and study skills
  • Spiritual guidance

Please note - student wellbeing leaders do not provide therapeutic intervention or professional counselling services.

We also work with each Sub-school to provide intensive case management support for students with complex needs and partner with teachers in the delivery of the wellbeing strand of our I.D. Program.

The Hub

Our wellbeing team can be located within The Hub, which also offers other support services to our students.

Student Services

Situated in the Hub, Student Services provides a range of support to students and families including:

  • Signing in and out for early departures or late arrivals
  • School Exemptions
  • First aid and medication distribution
  • Lockers and Locks
  • General Enquiries
  • Lost property
  • Loan uniforms
  • Phone unlocking station

Vocational Education and Training/ Pathways and Careers Services (VET)

Students can access advice and information about current career, study and pathway opportunities through the VET office. The team available to support consists of:

  • VET and Pathways Leader
  • VET and Pathways Student Support Officer

Pastoral Care Worker

Our school is a part of the National Student Wellbeing Program which enables our school to have a Pastoral Care Worker to support our students. Our Pastoral Care Worker is employed by Schools Ministry Group (SMG) and works under the guidance of our Wellbeing Leaders.

The aim of this service is to offer pastoral and practical support to students, staff and the school community.

Our Pastoral Care Worker supports our school community by:

  • Working with school leaders and wellbeing staff to promote the wellbeing of all students.
  • Supporting school camps, excursions and events.
  • Supporting lunchtime and community activities that connect the school to external partners and organisations.
  • Supporting and managing our school programs such as lunch time clubs.
  • Working under the guidance of school leaders and wellbeing staff to support students experiencing difficult situations, including grief, crisis and personal or emotional challenges.
  • Working with school leaders and wellbeing staff to provide information and referrals to additional supports, including community services.
  • Mentoring and coaching.
  • Being trained and equipped to provide our school with 6 dimensions of chaplaincy.

Reaching Potential Psychology       

Our Wellbeing Team have a partnership with Reaching Potential Psychology to provide our students access to a free clinical mental health service, on site, through The Hub.

Students with a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) referral, may access 10 sessions per year with our psychologists, bulk billed through Medicare, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and Department of Child Protection.

Making Appointments with one of our team members

Students:
Students can make appointments by completing an online form either onsite in The Hub or via the school Intranet page. The student will receive a DAYMAP message to confirm their appointment date and time.

Parent or Caregivers:

Appointments and/or wellbeing concern issues can be addressed by contacting the school wellbeing team via email. Please note any attendance issues need to be directed through the relevant Sub School Leader in the first instance.

SchoolTV

SchoolTV is a wellbeing platform with learning resources available to parents. It provides access to research-based information with realistic and practical strategies.  Each edition addresses a major topic and includes videos, parent quiz, Q&A with leading specialists, fact sheets, articles and a host of resources. A key feature of SchoolTV is its ability to aggregate content from many leading organisations such as Beyond Blue and ReachOut.

Acknowledgement of Country

Golden Grove High School acknowledges the Kaurna people who are the traditional owners of the land we learn on. We pay our respects to their spiritual relationship with Country and acknowledge that their cultural and heritage beliefs are still as important to those living today.
